Uh-Oh!

I can't believe I let this blog go on without a post as long as I did. There's been good news in my life, so I will blame those news for my slacker attitude.

Yep, I got a job. I found the perfect lawyer job in the perfect law firm. It was actually one of the firms very high up on my list of desired positions. The firm is extremely dog friendly (I may have mentioned it in this blog before). I interviewed 3 times, the third time I was offered a position as new associate. There are three in-house "Canine Associates" who make a regular appearance at the office. We've got a Wheaten Terrier, a Golden/Corgi Mix and my absolute fave (ever reminding me of Sparks), Izzy the Golden Retriever. I shamefully admit I am playing favorites ... But I think that's solely because Izzy smells a bit like Sparky and his feet have the same texture and Eau de Dawg as Sparky's did ... I'm in love! Izzy is making me reconsider my choice of picking a pug next ... Suddenly I feel the need to stay true to my Big Dog Love and find another lost soul like Sparky was when he first entered my life.

Speaking of the boy ... I purposefully did not report on his anniversary. I had a hard enough time making it through the last week before his "anniversary" and when the day came, I was glad it was over. Part of me was glad I had just started my new job and was on my second day. August 24th will forever be a sad day in my life. However, I am also ready to get past it all and start fresh. My new job allows me to bring my pup (whoever he will be) to work. I can't wait. I have been looking here and there, but now with Izzy in my professional life, I feel strongly about adopting again .... I also got a brand-new car ... I made the decision to sell Sparky's truck, which was a big step and was difficult to do, but in the end, this'll help me move on. Of course I kept all the little blankets and pillows that were his and had been floating around in that car for the last 10 years. Naturally, the new car was purchased with my future pup in mind: big trunk (for plenty of toys), easy to wash interior (for all those muddy mornings or beach days), low to the ground (should I get another older pup), and black ... I love black!

New life, I'm ready! I'm looking forward to picking out my next boy ... I'm convinced that somehow Sparky will guide me through it and plop the right pup in front of my face when the time is perfect.

Lotsa luv Puppyface, miss you Pooper!

PS: Anyone who loves/loved a dog should read "A Dog's Purpose". Such a feel good book with lots of laughter and some tears ... Go read it - I highly recommend it. :)

  1. Yah...you're back! I've missed you, could you tell? Well, it has been a journey for all of us and getting to this 'its okay to move forward and be happy again' point is so good. I am happy that you made it (that we all made it).

Now about adopting a dog. The answer is YES. Please, please, please go rescue an unfortunate, innocent being who is doomed without you. You know that is the right thing to do and Mr.Sparky would wholeheartedly agree. Prepare yourself for falling in love again at first sight -- it will be so much fun. Plus it sounds like with your active lifestyle, you really need a companion that can keep up with you.

Oh and yeah, congratulations on landing a great job. That is too perfect. Now go out there and find that pooch.

    xo me

  2. First off, CONGRATULATIONS, for landing the perfect job at the perfect firm!!!

We've been having the same battles about our next addition...as you know, rescue runs in my blood and, the logical side of me would never do anything but adopt a Springer or Brittany through the groups I work within. There is this little voice, once in a while that says "hey, if you guys are ever going to go the puppy route, do it now, not when you're in your 60's!". That voice makes sense to me, until I spend time with a Springer puppy, which I did, yesterday. Standard Poodles also catch my eye, a lot, but don't know if I have Bob convinced about that one just yet! We'll see!

I was thinking, at the beginning of August, that it's been one year since you and I "met". I cherish our friendship, Mareike, but know that we met during very difficult and, ultimately, sad times in our lives. I want you to know, though, that you have been a wonderful, cherished friend to me over this year and I know that that will continue forever. You're a special soul with a kind and giving heart and, I'm certain, Sparky is waiting to send you just the right companion, as Joe is going to send ours.

    Love,
    M

PS...another wonderful "dog" book is "The Art of Racing In the Rain"...laughter and tears, all written from the point of view of the dog in the story. Lovely.

  3. That is fantastic news about the job!!! So wonderful!!!

Also good to hear a needy dog out there is going to be getting you as his new owner!! That makes my heart sing!

I haven't read either of the books mentioned here, but my good friend has already told me about "The Art of Racing In the Rain", but wasn't sure if I would be ready to read it just yet. Yes, it's been well over a year since my girl died, and yes I have a new girl, but still - I haven't been able to read many dog oriented stories just yet.

I agree that Sparky will be with you through not only the selection, but with some of the adjusting as well.

Good to have you back online, and love the new blog look by the way!

  4. It's nice to hear that you have a new job and that you're on your way to moving on from your loss. I'm sure Sparky's gonna guide you in having a new dog in time. It would be good if you get another Golden Retriever because Golden Retrievers are intelligent, highly trainable, playful, affectionate and trustworthy based on what I have read from http://www.trainpetdog.com/Golden-Retriever/about-golden-retriever.html. So, go for it!
