In other news, the appointment with the breeder got canceled because of heavy rain in LA and the surrounding areas. However, she's sending a few new puppy pics later today. She said they are the prettiest little boys she's seen in a loooong time, all of them being plump little puppies with cute little faces and a funny disposition. Ooooh, the excitement! I'm going to head down to LA on Saturday instead; Saturday also being the day that I get to finally pick out Finley from amongst his brothers.
Other than that, I'm close to being done with preparations. I still have to puppy-proof the office and install the puppy gate/play area, but my home is made safe. I need another dog bed for the office and some blankets and bowls, and maybe a puppy pad or two(-hundred) ... but besides that, I'm ready to go. Hands down, this has been the longest 8 weeks of my life. Exciting. BUT LONG.

Well I haven't heard that one about microchipping and cancer but it sounds like its possible...sometimes I wonder what doesn't cause cancer? PG came to me already micro-chipped and the first time I took her to the vet we scanned her to get the number -- I felt like we were at the grocery store checking out! I probably wouldn't have done it myself just because I do not like the idea of it.
ReplyDeleteLately, PG has taken any opportunity she gets to tour around the 'hood on her own. The first time she did this, I was in a panic and even got in my car (like all those other careless owners I've seen before and shaken my head at) and drove around like an idiot looking for her. When I found her a short distance away she had her head in a hole and was covered in dirt and happy as could be. She saw me in the car and came right over and hopped in like nothing was odd. Sheesh.
So the next time she went touring (yesterday) I decided that I would not go looking. I live in a very low traffic, semi-rural area. The biggest dangers being compost piles. My feeling was if that was what she wanted to do, then fine...go....have a good life (yeah, I was a bit peeved). She was back at the door in less than a half hour and as it was snowing and quite cold, she was more than happy to get let into a nice warm house. I am not sure what this wandering is all about as this is the first time I have dealt with it.
I think as small as Finley will be you won't have such a problem. You will be able to catch up to him easily if he starts to wander. That is definitely an advantage. He will be so bonded to you as well since you are getting him so young. Those puppies are so cute. A friend of mine has a pug puppy and named him "Sproket".
Cheers. xo
I'm conflicted about microchips. I never put one in Indiana because she broke out in a rash from the metal that was on her first collar. I couldn't imagine what would happened if I put some sort of metal into her skin! yikes!
ReplyDeleteScarlett was supposed to be microchipped & spayed when I got her but wasn't, so when I spayed her I said ok to the microchip. But now I can feel where it is in her neck and it bothers me. Not as 'micro" as I'd like! The vet said that sometimes happens.
I guess it's a good thing - but it only will get your dog back if someone thinks to scan your dog. I have a pitbull & live in Philadelphia. If she gets lost here, there's a VERY slim chance of getting her back, sad to say. More likely then not, the wrong person will grab her and just keep her.
But I travel, and there's the possibility she'll run off I guess. . So now I'll just keep a close eye on that spot and make sure it never lumps up. I don't know. I didn't read about the cancer issue until recently myself.
There's so much to worry about. . .hehe - but we can only pray. And have fun!!!!!
